Our Fun Filled Weekend and Entertaining in our New Home

It was fun filled for sure

As most of you know our little Micaiah turned 5 last week. In celebration of the miraculous blessing that was his birth, we had a party for him on Saturday. This kicked off our fun filled weekend of entertaining. His past four parties were small in attendees. Partially because we didn’t invite any one that was not a very close friend or immediate family. At his first birthday party it was only my parents, my sisters, and their children. He was the first one out of all of them who actually tore the smash cake to bits. It was awesome!

Last year we invited our church family and immediate family only. There was only one person who showed up. It made him quite sad, but he still had a great time. This year, however, was different. We invited everyone, and most of them showed up. It was great, and made him feel so good, and loved to know that so many people were willing to drive all the way out here just for him. We met some of our new neighbors, and they hung around to enjoy the party as well. It was fun filled for sure! He had a wonderful time and got to see some family he hasn’t seen in a while. Grandma even came after just being released from the hospital the night before. She pretty much just held the baby, but she was here.

The fun didn’t stop there

The fun didn’t stop there, though. Sunday was my birthday, and I can’t remember the last time a party was thrown in my honor. Oh wait, yes I can. It was yesterday. The church had a big cookout here at our house for me. We had just as many here for my party as we did for Micaiah’s the day before, with only one repeat guest. It was so much fun. It was strange, but relaxing to not be the one busy bustling around the kitchen, and doing all the entertaining. I was able to just sit with my baby, and talk to my friends and family. I truly enjoyed chatting with my baby sister, we don’t get to see each other much. My husband and kids even cleaned up the entire mess before I could even think about doing it myself.

Usually I am more like Martha, busy serving, and entertaining. Unlike Martha, though, I am joyful in my service and love to entertain. Yesterday I felt more like Mary, sitting and enjoying conversation, and getting to enjoy my kids, and those who love me. It pales in comparison to sitting at the feet of Jesus, but was still very nice. It reminded me that sometimes it is good to let others serve me, and show their appreciation for the things I do. Not that I need that, but that it is just as prideful to deny them of it if they feel led to do so. I truly had a great time.

Entertaining in our new house

Entertaining in our new house has been so much fun, and as a added bonus, it’s also very easy. We knew that having all of this space was going to be great for our kids, but didn’t think about how much easier it was going to be for hosting. I love entertaining. We used to live very close, like next door and across the street from, some of our close family. We had someone, or at times many someones, over for dinner regularly. It was strange to not have someone over in fact. I miss that. No house that we have lived in until now, though, made that super easy to do. But here, oh how easy it has been.

We had well over 20 people here both Saturday and Sunday, and none of us felt as though we were cramped, squished, or otherwise uncomfortable. No one was tripping over kids, and believe me when I tell you there were a lot of them. The only thing that was not ideal was the fact that we came from a house with a much smaller sitting room, so our seating arrangements were not the best. We are in the market for a new sectional. I just haven’t found the one we love yet. Even with limited comfy seating though, no one was uncomfortable or lacking a place to sit. We just had to pull more chairs out. All in all, this fun filled weekend has caused me to fall even more in love with our new house. Living comfortably and entertaining with ease has never been more streamlined, and practical. I am looking forward to our next opportunity to have folks over with joy, and excitement more than ever before.
